With over 20 years of culinary experience, Chef José Gutiérrez has become a respected voice in Las Vegas’ vibrant food scene. His story is shaped not only by talent and discipline but also by a deep connection to his roots and a heartfelt approach to hospitality that’s felt in every dish he creates.
Originally from Mexico, José fell in love with cooking at home, watching his mother and grandmother prepare meals with love and care. “Mole was the flavor that marked the beginning for me. That’s when I realized food had the power to connect hearts and memories,” he shares.
His journey began in Maui, but it was in Las Vegas where his culinary career truly flourished. He held leadership roles in renowned kitchens including Hell’s Kitchen, Bobby Flay, TAO Group, Cleaver, Herbs & Rye, and José Andrés Group. Yet beyond the prestige, Chef José forged his own path with a clear vision: to elevate the dining experience through creativity, respect for ingredients, and human connection.

Today, he’s a proud partner and head chef at Mi Barrio Kitchen, a restaurant that honors Latin culture through bold flavors, modern presentation, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. His latest creation, Cena en Mi Barrio, is an intimate dinner experience featuring a curated menu where ingredients like octopus, chiles, and butter take center stage.
Chef José leads not just from the kitchen but from the heart. He’s passionate about mentoring the next generation of chefs and advocates for collaboration within the culinary community. “Competition can be motivating, but collaboration helps us all grow. When we support each other as chefs, we all win.”
Outside the kitchen, he finds balance through the gym and quality time with his kids. One of his favorite comfort foods? A simple bowl of fideo soup. “It reminds me of my childhood, and my kids love it, it keeps me grounded.”
